Shirley J. Sanchez

Shirley J. Sanchez was a longtime wood street resident of Riverside, Ca., passed away on February 23, 2023 at the age of 98 beautiful years. She will now join her husband Joe C. Sanchez Sr., in eternal life. Shirley was born in Oro Grande, Ca., on March 28, 1924 to Amador and Leocadia Ramirez. Our mom was the last surviving sibling out of nine brothers and sisters. She was a caring mother to six proud children. Surviving are five daughters and son-in-law's; Juanita & Sal Trujillo, Stella & David Rivera, Rosalia & Art Duysings, Julie & Leonard Vasquez, Consuelo & Frank Sauceda, and her pre-deceased son, Joe C. Sanchez Jr., who adored her. She was Gramma to 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. All have brought mom, much joy, love and laughter with each card, visits and many hugs. Shirley was an admired sister-in-law, Tia, godmother, and friend, to many that she touched throughout her long life. Mom's priority was her family. Raising us kids and caring for her parents and our dad. Her nurturing ways were endless and selfless. She taught us values and to show respect and have strength as she was our greatest role model. Shirley was a proud 1943 Polytechnic High School graduate. Mom and dad met at the Arlington Heights packing house. Her wedding crown was decorated with orange blossoms. Shirley set the example in community service and volunteering such as being an interpreter, a volunteer at Riverside Salvation Army, volunteered at The March of Dimes, helped on the Riverside election board at the Elks club, and a Magnolia Elementary School yard teacher. Her hobbies included bingo, traveling to Vegas with dad, gardening, canning fruits, cutting nopales and making chili sauce, delicious tamale making, enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crocheting, finishing crossword books and baking homemade goods to share and loved to shop. Mom enjoyed watching her kids grow and looking out the window to watch the hummingbirds. Our mother will be missed by all and knowing she is with the Lord brings us peace as we grieve. Mom had a long and strong faith in Our Lady of Guadalupe and now the wings of the hummingbirds will carry her the rest of the way home. Mom, we love you forever, Your Family
